History

1989
Began operations as the Japan office of the U.S. company Star Dance Connection. Managed promotions for American HIP HOP dancers, including TV programs, magazines, nationwide tours, and event appearances. Introduced HIP HOP from the U.S. to Japan at an early stage, contributing to the major boom that followed.
1990
Began working as an agent for Japanese dancers, handling bookings for tour dancers such as Misato Watanabe and TMN.
1992
Established Free Wave Co., Ltd. As an agent for foreign dancers living in Japan, handled casting for long-established show clubs, TV programs, and commercials, and began producing and directing dance shows.
1993
Expanded into event casting, handling a wide range of attractions for various events, including bands, performers, talents, MCs, impersonators, and dancers. Began acting as an agent for street performers and other entertainers.
1996
Began managing Paul Jackson and launched the educational concert series “Jazz for Kids” led by him for children. Actively conducted volunteer activities, visiting over 20 schools nationwide.
Note: Paul Jackson is a world-renowned jazz bassist, known for performing with artists such as Herbie Hancock.
1998
Formed The Starlet’s, a package unit composed of foreign dancers residing in Japan. Managed all aspects of production, including casting, music selection, costume design, show structure, and direction. The innovative and unique audience-interactive entertainment show, featuring not only dance but also comedy and surprises, received widespread acclaim at hotel dinner shows and corporate parties across the country. At the Summer Dinner Show at Nagoya Castle Hotel, the performance drew approximately 1,000 attendees over three days and was featured for three consecutive years.
1999
Began managing and producing “True Spirit”, a gospel chorus unit of foreign singers residing in Japan.
Coordinated backing bands for visiting artists such as Babyface, and produced concerts at venues including Blue Note.
2000
Launched the company’s core business as an agent for foreign models residing in Japan. Leveraging unique management expertise cultivated in the event industry, built strong trust between clients and models, and officially started operations as a foreign model agency.
2001
Launched the company’s own record label, Starlet’s Records, expanding into the music industry. Released the album “Fisherman’s.com”, co-produced by Akira Sakata and Bill Laswell, and also released an analog vinyl of the same album featuring the track Kaigara-bushi, remixed by DJ Krush.
2003
Changed the company’s legal structure from a limited company to a joint-stock company
2006
Launched the Narrator Division and obtained a license for paid employment placement services.
2008
Obtained a license for temporary staffing services.
2010
Completed the casting for the role of “Darling” in the film My Darling Is a Foreigner, marking the launch of the company’s Actor Division.
2012
Celebrated the 20th anniversary of the company’s founding.
2013
Launched the original Ustream program “Bibitto Gaikokujin! Culture Shock TV.”
2014
Gained attention for the role of Mr. Scott in NHK’s morning drama series “Hanako to Anne”.
2015
Relocated the office to Ikejiri, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo.
2016
Released a set of personal seals produced by “Roma,” the Hanko Prince who became famous on the TV program “Why Did You Come to Japan?”
2017
Celebrated the company’s 25th anniversary. Managed foreign cast members for more than 10 regular NHK-related programs, including the Basic English series (Kiso Eigo), English Conversation Time Trial (Eikaiwa Time Trial), Business English for Beginners, Contemporary English for High School Students (Kokosei kara hajimeru Gendai Eigo), Japanology Plus, Tokyo Eye 2020, and RISING.
2018
Launched the Overseas Model Division. Founded Model Bible, the industry’s first online media platform dedicated to models. Organized Miss Supranational Okinawa 2018, which went on to win the national competition in Japan.
2019
Established the Talent Division. Clara Rose was selected for “Foorin team E.” Began managing talent Carolina Shiino and voice actor Marina Aicholtz.
2020
Five child actors managed by the company appeared in the film “The Promised Neverland.” Began managing Tomiko Clare.
2021
Lexy Cole was selected for NHK’s SDGs children’s unit “Midories.” Strengthened management of child models as part of the company’s Kids Model Division.
2022
Alexander Kawamoto appeared in the stage production “Hairspray.” Began managing Rira Kaneko.
2023
Renamed the Talent Division to the Entertainment Division, officially launching full-scale talent management.
Our television and stage management expanded through projects such as Lila Kaneko’s casting as a “Terebi Senshi” in NHK’s regular program: “Tensai Terebi Kun”,
and 3 newly casted actors in the “Musical: The New Prince of Tennis”.
2025
Our agency’s entertainment business department grew significantly, producing many successful talents for film and film-related projects, including: Derrick Dover as Irvine Marshall and 22 other Free Wave actors casted in the film: “Takarajima” (Treasure Island), 23 Free Wave actors cast in the film “Last Man”,
and regular cast members for NHK Radio’s “Radio Eikaiwa” and NHK’s “Eigo De Asobo”.
2026
Restructured the company into a three-branch operation: Commercial Business, Narration Business, and Entertainment Business.
Opened the Osaka Office in response to growing demand in the Kansai region.
