What is a Foreign Extra?

Foreign extras appear in background scenes rather than in principal or supporting roles.

Selection Process:

Once we receive your casting image and requirements, we will send you the comp cards of suitable candidates. You can then select your preferred cast. As a general rule, extras are cast based on their comp cards and do not attend auditions.

On-site Management

Many of our foreign extras speak Japanese, making communication on set smooth and efficient. For large-scale bookings, a dedicated coordinator will accompany the extras on set to ensure everything runs smoothly.

On-set Interpretation & Language Coaching

Free Wave provides on-set interpreters and language coaches for film, television, and commercial productions. From interpreting at TV commercial shoots and auditions to dialogue coaching and language supervision in English and many other languages, we provide comprehensive linguistic support tailored to the needs of each production.

What Is an On-set Interpreter?

An on-set interpreter is more than just a translator. Working closely with the director and production team, they communicate the creative vision clearly and naturally to the cast, helping performers deliver their best on camera. With a deep understanding of both film production and cross-cultural communication, on-set interpreters also help coordinate the cast and ensure smooth communication throughout the production.

What Is Language Coaching?

Language coaches help actors deliver authentic performances in English and many other languages for films, television, and commercial productions. They provide guidance on pronunciation, intonation, natural phrasing, and cultural nuances, helping non-native speakers deliver their lines more naturally and confidently.
Beyond language accuracy, they work closely with the cast to refine dialogue and performance, helping actors deliver lines with confidence and authenticity. Language coaches also support post-production by reviewing dialogue and pronunciation to ensure the final edit sounds natural to native speakers.
